Honors Academy

 

U-Tech Prep’s Honors Academy provides opportunities for ambitious and motivated learners to access a rigorous and fast-paced curriculum pathway. In addition to accessing advanced content, Honors Academy scholars learn and collaborate within a dedicated learning pod.

About The Honors Academy

  •  Students have more opportunities to explore, research, critique the reasoning of others, and analyze issues from various perspectives.
  •  Students evaluate and propose creative, innovative solutions to complex problems.
  •  Students leverage technology and tools to communicate and collaborate effectively across diverse audiences.
  •  Students demonstrate purpose, ownership, vision, and belief in themselves.

Eligibility

  •  Student eligibility will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of grades, test scores, and demonstrated success.

Opportunities

  • Students complete an interdisciplinary project each semester under the guidance of an advisor.
  • Grade levels meet weekly for 30-minute synchronous sessions with peers and advisors 
  • Honors Academy students receive guided pacing for their tasks and frequent support and feedback from their advisor.
  • Includes dual enrollment and AP® course benefits (see the Fees section for details)
  • To reflect the additional rigor, Honors Academy grades are weighted on high school transcripts.
  • Students should expect to dedicate 2-3 hours per week to Honors tasks - roughly ½ hour per day.

  • Dual enrollment benefit: For just a $50 annual registration fee, Honors Academy students receive two CMU courses included, while regular full-time enrollments include one.  
  • Advanced Placement (AP®) benefit: Honors Academy students pay a yearly $250 AP® course flat fee, while standard U-Tech enrollments pay $250 per AP® course. 

Registration Process

  • Interested U-Tech students should request the link for the online Honors Academy application from Marissa Ortiz at mortiz@jpsonline.org. The application needs to be completed with a parent or guardian.
  • The application deadline is August 14.
  • Honors Academy work begins one week after the start of core classes.
